Newell School District will be hosting “The Songs We Love” spring music concert on Thursday, April 24th. The concert starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Austin Auditorium. The kids have been working hard to provide a grand performance for the community. May 5th will be the Newell Fine Arts banquet to celebrate the students' accomplishments.

Performing arts are an important part of a student's education as a booster for academics, enhance cognitive skills, and promote student engagement.  Students in performing arts often demonstrate improved grades, test scores, and higher rates of graduation and college enrollment, according to the National Endowment for the Arts.

Engagement in performing arts improves academic performance in core subjects like reading, math, and science.  According to Americans for the Arts, “Students who take four years of art and music classes score an average of over 150 points higher on the SAT than students who take only one-half year or less.”  Involvement in the arts provides a well-rounded education for students.

Student emotional development is impacted through performing arts by providing a nurturing space for children.  The development of self-awareness, empathy, and social skills is found in the foundation of a student’s academic success in school and beyond.  In addition, dancing, singing, playing music, and acting help students develop coordination, balance, and body awareness.  Small movements in performing arts fine-tune important fine motor skills.

Join us on Thursday night to reap the rewards of our great students.  You will find the music you love is also the songs we love.  See you there!
