Beef to School

The Newell School uses approximately 1,000 pounds of beef during the school year, which equals nearly 2-3 head of cattle.

The Newell School District is seeking local support from beef producers willing to donate beef to help feed our students.

Market steers and open heifers will be processed into ground beef, cubed beef, and hamburger patties.

Federal guidelines and South Dakota Department of Education policies require that meat for consumption through the school lunch program be processed at an approved facility.

Wall Meats has generously agreed to process the beef for the Newell School District. Wall Meats is a licensed and inspected establishment under the South Dakota Meat Inspection program.

Cattle producers are asked to transport their cattle to Wall Meats, and the school district will determine how the beef is processed.
