The $5 Book Fair is coming to Newell School Monday, April 24 at Austin Auditorium!
Pre-school through fifth-grade students will have the opportunity to go shopping throughout the school day. If you would like your child to purchase the book(s), please send $5 for each book to school with them on Monday in a marked and sealed envelope. Their classroom teacher and Mrs. Wallace will help them choose books!
The book fair will also be set up from 4pm - 6:30pm in the lobby of Austin Auditorium. Proceeds from this book fair will be distributed to classroom teachers for updated reading materials for classrooms.
April is National Poetry Month! During library class, fourth and fifth-grade students at Newell Elementary School are learning about Blackout Poetry and how to make their own creations. Students are using recycled newsprint and old books. Be on the lookout for some of their finished works!

Last week Mr. Decker took the applied biology and chemistry class to the Sanford Underground Research Facility. They went on a tour of their Wastewater treatment plant to see how they process and purify water that is pumped up out of the mine/lab!
The 8th graders were visited today by Don Balyeat from the Civil War Trust. Don brought in several artifacts from Civil War battlefields and he will give another presentation tomorrow. His program allows students to interact with the items and see the Civil War through a new perspective.
Newell School District will surplus school supplies such as old books and textbooks and a carpet extractor on Tuesday, April 18th. Surplussed items can be located in the multipurpose room from 5:30-7:30 pm and are free to the public.

Supper is served at 5:30, in MP room and then activities are in the Middle School gym. Come learn about many different types of science, and then take some math games home to work on facts, etc throughout the summer

Local veteran, Greg Todd paid a visit to Mr. V's US History class today. He spoke about the culture, history, and his firsthand accounts of Vietnam from his time in the service. We look forward to having Greg come back again!
