The Newell Irrigator Cross Country Team had an outstanding day at the regional meet in Philip. Eight of our 13 team members qualified for the state meet in Rapid City on October 26th. The boys who qualified were Clint Winkler (4th), David Kirby (17th), and Bodie Vanderboom (18th). The girls who qualified were Eirelynn Bender (10th), Lucille Ahart (13th), McKenzie Rans (15th), Bethany Mahaffy (18th), and Evelyn Ahart (19th). Both teams will compete at state with the potential to place. Clint Winkler achieved a huge personal record and is aiming to place at state. Personal records were also set by McKenzie Rans, Bodie Vanderboom, and Evelyn Ahart, along with some season bests. We hope to see you at our pep rally for the state qualifiers on Thursday, October 24th. Congratulations to the entire team on a fantastic performance!

Tracy Moody, an Anatomy instructor from NSU, visited the Newell School District on Wednesday, October 2nd. During her visit, she brought a sheep heart and a cow eyeball for students to dissect. The students had the opportunity to dissect the eyeball, removing the lens and other structures while learning about the different parts and functions of the eye. When dissecting the sheep heart, they explored its chambers, valves, and their respective functions. Overall, the students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and had a great time with the dissections.

The Newell Middle School Football Team played their first home game today. It was a nail biter. They played awesome and showcased what their offense could do. Newell had 2 interceptions and a fumble recovery too. There were many fans cheering them on and the high school football team ran the chain gang and did some announcing. Their next game is against Harding County on October 10th here at home.
